Webster Technique and Prenatal Chiropractic in Overland Park: What Expecting Moms Need to Know

Pregnancy is one of the most physically demanding experiences a woman's body goes through. In a matter of months, your center of gravity shifts, your pelvis widens, your ligaments loosen, your posture changes, and your body works to accommodate a growing baby — all while you are trying to keep up with daily life.
Most of that is just part of being pregnant. But a lot of the discomfort that comes with it does not have to be.
What Webster Technique Is
Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed for pregnant women. It focuses on the sacrum — the triangular bone at the base of your spine — and the surrounding muscles and ligaments that connect to the uterus and pelvis.
When the sacrum is misaligned or the surrounding soft tissue is tight or restricted, it can create tension in the uterine ligaments and affect the space available for the baby. Webster Technique addresses those restrictions to restore balance in the pelvis, reduce tension in the uterine environment, and support optimal fetal positioning as the pregnancy progresses.
It is gentle, safe throughout pregnancy, and most patients find it deeply relieving — especially in the second and third trimesters when pelvic discomfort tends to peak.
What We Commonly See and Treat
**Round ligament pain** — Sharp, stabbing pain in the lower abdomen or groin, often triggered by quick movements. Extremely common and very responsive to care.
**Symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD)** — Pain at the front of the pelvis where the two halves of the pelvis meet. Walking, rolling over in bed, and climbing stairs can become painful. Chiropractic and soft tissue care can make a significant difference.
**Low back and sacroiliac pain** — The SI joints take on enormous load during pregnancy, especially as ligaments relax under the influence of relaxin. Keeping these joints moving properly reduces pain and supports a more comfortable pregnancy.
**Sciatica in pregnancy** — Nerve pain down the leg is common in the second and third trimesters as the growing baby shifts load through the pelvis. Addressing the source rather than just the symptom is key.
**Optimal fetal positioning** — While Webster Technique is not a guarantee of fetal positioning, creating a balanced pelvic environment gives the baby the best opportunity to settle into an optimal position for birth.
Spinning Babies and Beyond
In addition to Webster Technique, our team is trained in Spinning Babies — a series of techniques, positions, and exercises designed to encourage optimal fetal positioning and support an easier labor and delivery. We use these tools alongside chiropractic care to address the full picture.
Is It Safe?
Yes. Prenatal chiropractic care is safe throughout pregnancy when performed by a trained provider. We use adjusting techniques appropriate for each stage of pregnancy, including specialized tables and positioning to keep you and your baby comfortable and supported throughout every visit.
When to Start
The earlier, the better — but it is never too late to start. Many patients come in during the first trimester to establish pelvic balance early. Others come in later when symptoms appear. Either way, there is value in care at every stage.
We work closely with OBs and midwives and are happy to coordinate care with your existing birth team.
